Personal Expressions in Type
Personal Expressions in Type is an annual Typography show at the University of Texas at Arlington that showcases the work of the Advanced Typography students. The design for the envelope was inspired by Chinese red envelopes and uses a butterfly closure. The invitation is folded flat and is meant to be assembled into a lantern. The windows of the lantern feature the information about the event as well as a painting of the Four Gentlemen, a traditional Chinese set of plants that refer to the plum blossom, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemum, that symbolize the four seasons. The lantern incorporates vellum and intricate cutouts to allow light to easily pass through the lantern.
The alphabet poster accompanies the envelope and incorporates the traditional Chinese ink painting to create letters in the alphabet. And finally, I included my name on the poster through the use of a seal.
